Sinfonia of London Chamber Ensemble glows in Korngold sextet
A recent release of Korngold’s violin concerto, performed to great acclaim by violinist Andrew Haveron with John Wilson and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, also features Korngold’s String Sextet performed by Sinfonia of London’s Chamber Ensemble.
Presto Classical selected the album as recording of the week, with the ‘exuberant account’ of the Sextet ‘an absolute joy…the whole performance radiates the joy of musicians accustomed to collaborating with one another as part of a larger group, relishing the opportunity for more intimate music-making.’
Gramophone Magazine described the 17-year old composer’s Sextet as ‘the headiest and most precocious of confections, [its] passionate imperative seems hardly credible from one so young. It gets an absolutely cracking performance here from key members of Wilson’s newly reformed Sinfonia of London, led by Haveron.’
