Winner of BBC Music Magazine Award 2020
We are very proud to announce that our debut recording of recording of Korngold’s Symphony in F Sharp conducted by John Wilson has won the BBC Music Magazine Award for orchestral music 2020.
Released in September 2019 on the Chandos label, the record received widespread praise, relaunching Sinfonia of London to immediate acclaim.
Selecting the winner of the 2020 Awards, the BBC judges described how the ‘orchestra instantly sounds at the top of its game. There’s heart and soul in every note here. Emotions spill over at every turn, and details are revealed anew by these virtuosic players and a conductor who really knows how to inspire.’
On receiving the award, John Wilson, conductor and Artistic Director of Sinfonia of London, said, ‘it’s a great thrill to win the BBC Music Magazine award. The Korngold Symphony is a piece I’ve loved for years and have always wanted to record it. My thanks go to the BBC for their support and to the team at Chandos Records. But I couldn’t have done any of this without the terrific players who gave everything they could, every minute of every recording session – it was the privilege of my life to make music with them. From all of us at Sinfonia of London, thank you.’
